Flying Scotsman at Heywood Station

Our steam train photography days that we run in conjunction with the East Lancashire Railway are back for 2018.

We take you behind the scenes at the ELR to parts of the railway not open to the public and not visible from any public access point.

We go into the engine sheds and carriage works where you can photograph work underway to restore and maintain the locomotives and carriages.

We will also take you into Britain’s largest working signal box on a heritage railway.

All of these are photographic gold and provide challenges and rewards for every level of photographer.

Our steam photography days are not structured courses as we will have photographers of different levels of skill in the group, but you will be guided by a professional tutor who is on hand to offer advice and practical demonstrations throughout the day to help you achieve the shots you have in mind. The group size is limited to 8 so there is more than enough time to ask questions and discuss what you hope to get of the day.

We will of course take you out on the railway, stopping at vantage points to capture steam trains in motion and seeing the work of the railway’s engine drivers, guards and other volunteers as we travel.

A light lunch in the station buffet at Bolton Street Station is included in the price and you will be provided with a full safety briefing for the parts of the day when we are in the engine sheds and workshops.
