Our beginners photography course in Ashton Under Lyne near Manchester is for people new to photography or who find that they never move away from their camera’s AUTO feature.
Our photography courses take place at the historic Portland Basin Museum (close to the M60 junction) with its canal boats, towpaths and bridges giving us lots of inspiration. In case of bad weather we will use the museum’s displays as our backdrop.
Courses in Ashton are £89.00 and include free parking (bring a pack lunch or choose from the cafe)
You do not need an expensive camera to enjoy the course, but it must have controls that allow you to change the shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- Understand and use the manual controls of your camera.
- Understand exposure.
- Understand how to compose a photograph that is pleasing to the eye.
- Understand how light and movement affects your photographs.
- Use creative techniques to stand out from the ordinary.
After a welcome over a coffee we will start the day with a briefing. You will be provided with a detailed lesson plan to guide us through the day and help to embed what you are learning.
With the help of the lesson plans and notes for you to keep, we will spend the first half of the morning developing your knowledge of how your camera works and is adjusted. We will pause whenever you want, to ask questions. We will get out before lunch, to begin to put this into practice.
After a quick break, you will have the opportunity to re-cap some of the morning’s points and then we will be back out to put the tuition into practice in locations that are a short walk away.
The furthest we will walk is about 1km in and around the museum (cobblestone paths), so please consider this if you have mobility concerns and get in touch before booking if you would like more detail.
