Our beginners photography course Didsbury is for people new to photography or who rarely, if ever move away from their camera’s AUTO feature.
These are small group courses (maximum 9 people) with plenty of time to ask questions of our friendly, expert tutors.
You don’t need an expensive camera, just as long as it has some functions to control shutter speed, aperture and ISO. The course is all about building your confidence, it’s not about who has the latest equipment!
After a coffee/tea on arrival we will start in a classroom setting showing you how your camera works and what the controls do and introduce you to the principles of composing appealing images. This part of the day lasts about an hour and a half.
We will spend the rest of morning putting this knowledge into practice, pausing for your packed lunch and reviewing what’s worked and what hasn’t.
The afternoon is spent building on what you have learned so far and gently pushing your skills over the course of two or three hours.
You will be outside for most of the day so come dressed for the weather (we know where to shelter if it tips it down)
We will end the day by reviewing our work and asking questions before wrapping up at about 3.30pm by which time your data card and your brain will be full!
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- Understand and use the manual controls of your camera.
- Understand exposure.
- Understand how to compose a photograph that is pleasing to the eye.
- Understand light and how it affects your photographs.
- Understand the basics of colour and white balance.
